REGULATIONS

Two-story ADUs are allowed if the property is within ½ mile of transit or on multifamily lots with existing two-story buildings. Max height is 20 ft (otherwise 16 ft).
BUILDING SEPARATIONS
Detached ADUs must be 6 ft from dwellings, 5 ft from non-habitable structures, and 4 ft eave-to-eave.

Typically takes 2 to 5 months. The full process from start to finish averages around 8 months.

No Coastal Development Permit is needed since Santee is outside the Coastal Zone.
